Eliminate TMJ from Your Life
If you are experiencing pain in your jaw when chewing or talking or if you feel a clicking or popping sensation you may be suffering from Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ). The jaw bone and skull are connected with the temporomandibular joint. If this joint is injured it could lead to; swelling on the sides of the face, nerve inflammation, headaches and tooth grinding.
The exact cause of TMJ syndrome has not been established but it’s proven that multiple factors including muscle tightness adds to this dysfunction. TMJ syndrome may be a result of various disorders or may be the leading cause of TMJ for a person.
Some of the factors that may contribute to TMJ are;
Misalignment of the teeth or jaw, trauma to the teeth or jaw, teeth grinding, stress or anxiety, musculoskeletal disorders or excessive gum chewing.
TMJ can cause extreme pain and it can be temporary or long term. It can affect one or both sides of a person’s face. This disorder is most common among people who are between the ages of twenty and forty but it can affect men or women of any age.
Symptoms of TMJ include;
- A tired feeling in your face
- An uncomfortable bite
- Facial swelling
- Pain in the face, jaw, neck or shoulders
- Pain around the ear when you open your mouth wide, speak or chew
- Jaws that get locked when the mouth is opened or closed
- Hearing issues
- Ringing in the ears
